This was one of my most challenging commissions yet as this was a series of paintings-- four out of ten requested. As a tribute to the owner's history as an AIDS-awareness advocate for his community, I chose background colors to reflect a rainbow when the works were hung in a line, and arranged the cats in order of their adoption (all were rescues with wonderful stories). Some of the cats were similar breeds and I had to choose representations that reflected the personalities of the kitties, along with different poses for greater variety.

These are four of eleven for one pet owner.

Storm is much adored by his people, but he's a protective little fellow. I really like the monochromatic blue color scheme and expressive strokes. Keeping it simple and the use of that highlight in his eye seems to have made his little face as keenly intense as it is in person.

Moby

Moby’s painting was a memorial piece. This handsome pitbull has been featured on my business cards and postcards.¬†

Tater

Meet Tater, a spry little creature from California. This was a fairly quick piece and not overworked. I tend to like those the best.

I was told Joan was the household princess. Who am I to argue with that?

Little brown collie or a fox? Maybe this pup's a little of both.

Toby painted

Here’s lookin’ at you, kid. Toby in his first year– he’s far furrier and less of a chupacabra than he was in puppyhood, but still follows us with those rolling eyes.
